PRAYER
With the stabbing to death of the Bowie
State University Lt. Student who was scheduled to graduate this past Tuesday,
was killed by another student at the University
of Maryland College Park. I followed the story because it was close to home for
me for several reasons.
1 I am an alumni of UMCP
2 I am Black (I realized that I was black
when I came to America)
3 I am a mother.
These reasons are both personal and spiritual for
me. Being an immigrant, we pray against poor witches and wizards who are dying
of hunger in Africa, and seem to neglect the real issues of the country we
migrated to. In the United States where I live, our problems are more than spiritual.
It is more than witches attacking us and blah. As a praying mother, I pray for
the safety for my children. When my kids went to daycare, as I dropped them, I prayed
for every student in the care of the nanny, the nanny and those who came to the
house. People walk around with personal mental issues and spiritual issues that
you have to be prayerful. When God is taken away from the system anything can penetrate
the system.
May the soul of 2nd Lt. Richard W. Collins
III rest in perfect peace. May his family find the strength to bear this loss,
and may his mother be comforted.
I leave you with this note in Psalm 73:26 “But as for me, how good it is to be near
God! I have made the Sovereign LORD my shelter, and I will tell everyone about
the wonderful things you do.”
