Chuck E. Cheese or Gas?
The choices we make as parents are very crucial to both us
and our kids. Last week Sunday, after attending my company picnic with the
kids. When it was time to go, my 3 year old began his “NO! I DON’T WANNA GO”
tantrum. I was ready to hit the road back to Baltimore and was tired from the night
before. After much pleading and trying to bribe him with food, which he
declined, I finally asked him if he wanted to go to Chuck E Cheese, and
immediately his answer was YES! For a month now, I have been lying to my son that
I would take him to Chuck E. Cheese if he does what I tell him to do (that’s how
bribery and deceit begins in the society! LORD HELP ME), as a kid, he believes
and does as I requested. However, on this particular day, I had to fulfill my
promise, because the bible tells us not to lie.
On our arrival to the venue, his excitement went over the
roof, as he was happy that we were finally heading to Chuck E Cheese.
Oh! I forgot to mention, my gas tank was on empty.
On getting there, ready to get off the car, my wallet wasn’t
in my purse. I had forgotten it at home. Home was an hour away, so there was no
way I was going to drive home and still go to Chuck E. Cheese or anywhere else.
Luckily, I had $10 in my car. That could buy my gas home or 32 tokens for the
kid who was excited to meet Chucky and his friends. Decisions! Decisions! Decisions!
Here I am, an hour away from home, no driver’s license, not enough
money for gas or Chuck E. Cheese. After lying
to the kid for weeks, fulfilling my promise and then driving him to the place
just to tell him NO, Mommy left her wallet at home. He is 3, he would never
understand. Ahhhhh! The joys of motherhood, I had to sacrifice the $10 for his
happiness and figured out a way to get gas home.
